At Tier One Dental, dental implants are used to replace one tooth or many teeth. An implant is an artificial tooth root in the shape of a post placed into the jaw and used to support a permanent restoration, like a crown. Dental implants are strong and durable with proper care. They are better than other restorations like bridges because no other teeth must be altered to replace the new tooth. Dental implant surgery is completed over a few months since the process of osseointegration must occur where the jawbone fuses with the implant. Once the bone around the dental implant has healed, it is time to place the implant restoration on top, which completes the process.
First, our dentist will surgically place the implant post in your jawbone. This implant post will act as an artificial root to permanently support your artificial tooth. The healing period for this first procedure is usually around a few months. Once your jaw has healed and fused with the implant post, our dentist will attach an abutment to your post. An abutment holds the false tooth in place and connects it to the dental implant post. Most patients would be ready to have their new teeth attached at this stage. Our dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send those impressions to a dental lab where your permanent prosthetic teeth will be custom-made. Once the lab has completed your new teeth, you’ll return to our dentist for the final placement of your new teeth.
